In addition to contributing to main EMAG meetings, EMAG members also sit on project groups designed to examine issues in detail and offer the Task Force advice on them. The project groups are chaired by EMAG members.
There are currently three project groups
The Area Initiatives Project Group focuses on government's area-based investment strategy, including the Working Neighbourhood Fund, City Strategy Pathfinders and the 2012 Olympics.

The Procurement Project Group is looking at how public-sector procurement can be better used to address inequalities in the labour market. With the public sector spending around £175 billion annually on goods and services, this is potentially a massive lever to improve the employment rate of ethnic minorities and other disadvantaged groups.
