Ethnic Minority Advisory Group
Mission Statement
EMAG's goal is to help deliver the Government's aspiration to eradicate, within 25 years, the gap between the ethnic minority employment rate and the overall employment rate by providing practical solutions to a problem that currently affects so many.
EMAG is a highly influential body, whose role is to:
- Act as the Task Force's 'ear to the ground': identify gaps in provision, problems facing ethnic minority jobseekers and employees; other areas of concern that Government may not be addressing – a "critical friend"
- Provide advice to ministers, the organisations and government departments represented on the Task Force
- Provide responses to Government consultations in order to ensure that policy drawn up adequately reflects the ethnic minority employment agenda.
Background
The Ethnic Minority Advisory Group (EMAG) was set up in 2006 as a reorganised and re-branded version of the Ethnic Minority Stakeholder Group and the then National Employment Panel's Minority Ethnic Group (MEG). The Stakeholder Group had been formed to fulfil the 2003 Strategy Unit Report recommendation that the ethnic minority voluntary sector be represented on the Ethnic Minority Employment Task Force.
